CAPE TOWN'S GOT TALENT !

Jungle Theatre Company (JTC) had over 60 applications for the performing arts training programme which is funded by the National lottery
Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF)

JTC auditioned 46 young people at the False Bay
Rendezvous in Muizenberg. Heather Mac facilitated the audition and members of the Jungle team sat on the panel. JTC selected 23 to go through to the next round. Artistic Director Vincent Meyburgh said: “It was sad to see disappointment for some; I wish we could include everyone in the programme.”

JTC has ten places on the two year training programme, which will lead to creating and touring
new works at schools.

BEACH CLEAN UP

Jungle Theatre Company (JTC) is back with a bigger and brighter Pick Up Litter Parade. The family fun afternoon, which creatively tackles the very visible problem of litter and waste in the Muizenberg precincts, invites the public to join a spectacular parade; dress up as their favorite sea creature or come as themselves and follow the giant Shark, Octopus and Turtle puppets and mobile musicians along the Muizernberg beach.

JTC has engaged a host of organizations to take part in the event on the beach this year to emphasize the importance of the individual being responsible for keeping the beach clean. The environmentally focused footwear, apparel and
accessories company Ocean Minded is providing gloves and bags for all who want to join in the creative litter clean up and challenge everyone on the beach to find the strangest piece of litter; Zandvlei Trust will be giving a talk about the
negative impact litter and pollution in our area and Beat It drummers will set the pace of the parade to get everyone dancing and singing. Green Home is donating biodegradable cups for
refreshment along the way.

SYNERGY WITH THE PLANET

Vinnie From Zok delighted a family audience on October 24th at Synergy School in Sunnydale. Artistic Director Vincent Meyburgh performed his
interactive one man show, in which the children get a chance to be heroes in saving planet earth.
Patsy Hamilton from Synergy School said: “It was fantastic. The children who were here loved it,
Vinnie was great!”

Don’t miss the opportunity to see the final performance of Vinnie From Zok this year, with puppetry, juggling tricks, uni-cycling and music at Planet Kids, Wherry Road on Monday 14th December at 10h00. The show is best suited for
ages 5 to 10 but is fun for all the family.

NEWS IN BRIEF

• JTC got intercultural with eMzansti, coordinating two new intercultural projects in Red Hill’s three camps as well as collaboration with Seawinds and Vrygrond youth. Youth from both projects took part in the eMzansti Carnival parade and performed at the stage show.

• JTC had a great turn out for Indlovu People at the Baxter Theatre in September. Special thanks goes to Constantia Waldorf Grade 1 parents who
fundraised for sister school Zenzeleni Waldorf to attend the performance and to Living Hope who brought youth they have been working with from the south peninsula.

• On a less positive note, JTC was disappointed to hear that Zandvlei Community Centre will no longer be available as a rehearsal space due to a
successful application by City of Cape Town’s Traffic Department to use the building. In 2009 JTC work had benefitted greatly from ad hoc hire of the hall at Zandvlei Community Centre. Finding affordable space has been an ongoing struggle for JTC.

• JTC wishes to thank all funders and supporters who have made 2009 a record year, have a happy and safe festive season and a great start to 2010.
